I get a lot of questions from clients concerned about the proper outfit to wear for their photo shoot, so I wanted to share with you a few tips to keep in mind! Whether you are preparing for a family, senior, or couples session these tips will have you looking your best!

What Do I Wear?

Generally speaking, it is wise to wear an outfit that you are comfortable in and that will make you stand out from the background. Light, neutral colors generally work the best. Pops of color are okay, as long as it's not too distracting. Bright colors such as red, yellow, orange, bright green, and hot pink are fun, however, they are very distracting and, most of the time, don't photograph well. The same goes for patterns; simple is best! Matching OutfitsIt's a common misconception that matching outfits are GREAT for photos. Where at times it can be fun to match, it can be even better to coordinate colors, tones, and patterns rather than attempting to look identical. Always keep in mind that your outfit should be complementary to your skin tone, curves, and body type. The way you dress should only accent what's really important, YOU!

Accessories

Accessories can be a fun way to express your personality and individuality. They can also be a great way to pull an outfit together. Scarves, hats, jewelry, vests, or flowers in your hair can be great accessories to use in moderation. Remember the attention should be on you, not what you're wearing! In the photo below, the blanket served as a nice pop of color helping the couple stand out from the darker-toned background. Complimentary colors work nicely when deciding exactly which accessories to use.

What NOT to Wear:

Avoid anything with logos, characters, or graphics, distracting pops of colors, patterns, or textures. The same outfit as everyone else in the photo. Remove watches/ jewelry that doesn't complete your look.

Overall comfort is key! The more comfortable you are in the outfit, the more you can relax for a natural-looking pose. Staying away from distracting colors, logos, patterns, and textures can allow the focus to stay on you!
