Soiree Macabre Art Show
Before moving on to all things 2019 I realized that I never found the chance to write about one of my favorite art shows that happened last October, the Soiree Macabre Art show at Ogma Brewing in Jackson, Michigan.
Last year was my first year being a part of the show and it was the first year that the show was located at the new brewery, Ogma located in downtown Jackson. This space was perfect for an art show as it allowed ample room for artists to display their work without it feeling overcrowded.
When I was preparing my fine art pieces for this show I was having a hard time finding a model that was able to replicate the style and emotion I was wanting to capture. After several failed attempts, I decided to try something that I've never done before, I decided to take the photos of myself.
For those of you who know me, you probably know that I don't particularly like being in front of the camera; I'm much more comfortable on the other side. So, this was something that really pushed me out of my comfort zone.
The first few photos I took I was simply trying to get the hang of things. I knew in my head how I wanted the photos to look so it was really a matter of just making that come to life.
Setting my camera on a tripod I was able to use my ring light and a self-timer to capture all of these self- portraits. I was able to get everything I needed after about 20 minutes of shooting. All of these photos were taken with my Olympus Pen-F using a 17mm lens.
And without further ado, here's the 5 part series titled, Broken.
